Intro to Theatre

Acting 1

Stagecraft 1

Introduction to the Theatre provides an overview of the art, conventions, and history of the theatre. Students will learn all of the elements that go into a full theatrical production, both onstage and offstage, as well as historical, literary, and cultural background material.
All Grades
Prerequisite: Intro to Theatre

This course will provide the student with a comprehensive study of acting techniques including the steps in understanding, developing and presenting a character. Many opportunities for in-class performance will be provided. Further, the course will provide the students a basis for the evaluation of the performance of others. Various Acting Techniques will be discussed such as Stanislovsi, Greek Chorus, Shakespeare, Improvisation, Pantomime.

Prerequisite: Intro to Theatre

Stagecraft is the course which allows students to explore the technical elements of theatre. Various units will focus on lights, sound, costumes, makeup, properties, publicity, and set design. In addition, students will aid in the construction of sets for school productions. Proper and safe use of tools and the maintenance and care of equipment are vital parts of the course. Students will also read and discuss play scripts, with an emphasis on design. Ten hours of actual physical crew work outside of the class is required. This course may be repeated for credit.

Grades 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Acting 1 

 Acting II offers further opportunity for character analysis and development that were learned in Acting I. Scene study is combined with an exploration of theatre history, including political and cultural influences. Various acting techniques that will be covered include Meisner, Uta Hagen, Musical Theatre, Theatre for Young Audiences, Stage Combat, and Absurdism. Some out-of-class time will be required for this course. 
Grades 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Stagecraft 1

Acting 3/Directing 

Issue Theatre

Musical Repertory Theatre

Grades: 11 and 12
Prerequisite: Acting 2

This advanced course concentrates on specialized acting skills and gives those students who want the opportunity to pursue the craft beyond acting and technical work. Areas of study for those focusing on acting include: physical and vocal exercises and techniques; reading, viewing, and analyzing plays; auditioning, investigation of acting theories, and actual performance situations. Students focusing on directing will study various techniques and theories of directing. Students will be required to spend some time outside of class so that they may practically experience techniques discussed in class. Productions will be presented to the student body. Students in the class must be able to work independently when they are not under direct supervision. Some Out-of-Class Time is Required for this Course.

Grades: 11 and 12
Prerequisite: Acting 2 or Stagecraft 2 

In this class, scenes will be developed through improvisation and shared with the student body in various formats. The purpose of the class is to use theatre as a springboard for discussion of issues such as diversity, substance abuse, male/female relationships, peer pressure, etc. In addition to preparing and performing scenes, this class will feature expert presentations on various issues, including alcohol and drug abuse, depression, crimes of violence, discrimination and more. Students who enroll in the class must be able to work independently. Depending on enrollment, a production will be produced.
 Grades: 11 and 12
Prerequisite: Acting 2 and any Choir Course

​Enroll in Acting 3/Directing to take this course.
The purpose of Musical Repertory Theatre is to experience both the history of musical theatre and the performance aspects of understanding, scoring and performing a song. Students will
simultaneously learn the history of the art form, the performance style for each era of
musical theatre and how to create a meaningful and well crafted performance. Can be taken multiple times. A Broadway Medley and Broadway Revue Show will be produced in this course. 
Some Out-of-Class Time is Required for this Course.
